4 cards. 2 cards. 1 card. 4 coins. They move. They vanish. Done silently or to music. The coin matrix is a plot that is performed by nearly every close-up magician. There have been “standard” matrix routines with standard moves and sleights. Often the magician will find their own variance in the plot and from time to time, their own unique sleight that will enhance the deceptiveness of the moments.

The fun in creating a matrix routine is changing the plot and finding new ways to make the mystery seem impossible and offer surprise endings.

With this three phase routine, we have “gone back to basics” with regard to the plot, with a twist thrown in, combined with new methods that will surprise the audience — magician and non-magician alike.

On it’s surface, these three phases are bare bones — 4 cards and 4 coins. There are no extra gimmicks, no reels, no threads, no shells. Just 4 coins, 4 cards and two hands. Each phase takes the audience down a path to a surprising conclusion and each builds on the one before.

We have created some new techniques for stealing and placing the coins that add to the deceptiveness of the routine.

In addition to the three phase matrix routine, you’ll find a collection of sleights and routines from Jonathan and Robert:

A coin transfer with a clink
A mid-air coin clink
Coins through table
Ninja coins
The Les Mis Vanish
